Starting a business can be costly in itself, and there’s often not much budget for things like web design. Our website design starter packages are specially created for small business owners who want a cost-effective, yet professional-looking and unique, website.
Using WordPress as a Content Management System allows us to keep the cost to you down, plus it provides a powerful and flexible solution for small businesses – your site can grow as your business grows! All our packages come with a free one hour consultation in which we spend some time chatting about things like your business and the look and feel that you want for your website. Once you’ve purchased the package that meets your requirements, we’ll send you an email to start the ball rolling. If you live locally, we can arrange to meet in person. If not, we’ll either do all our chatting by email or arrange a meeting via Skype – whatever works best for you!

What we will do:

- Change the colours and fonts to match your business branding
- Insert your logo and/or banner image into the site header
- Create 5 pages for you, ready to be filled with your content

What you need to do:
- Register your domain nameA domain name is your website’s address on the Internet. You need both this and a hosting account in order to have a fully functional website.
- Organise hostingA web host provides the space to store all the files associated with your website. When someone types your domain name into their web browser, your browser accesses these files in order to display your website to your visitor. If your site is to be built using WordPress, it is very important that you choose a host that actually supports WordPress (not all do, unfortunately). Our recommended hosting partner is Hostgator. All our own sites are hosted with them, and we have found them to provide value for money, be extremely reliable, and have excellent customer service. If you purchase our Marvin package, you do not have to host your site with Hostgator. However, if you choose to do so, we will be able to offer you a £25 discount on the cost of the Marvin package. Please note: in order to take advantage of this discount, you will have to sign up with Hostgator using the referral link that we provide to you. for your website

Please note: Marvin’s bones might be bare, but he does have a lot to offer – a five page website with full Content Management System. (Contrast this with currently available alternatives: paying a similar price for a non-WordPress-based website will usually buy you only one page, while a Content Management System can easily cost over £1000.)
Not quite ready to commit yourself to Marvin just yet, but still want to dip your toes into the WordPress waters?
Try our Mini-Marvin option – the ultimate starter package! You organise your domain name and hosting*, and we’ll do the techy bits involved in installing WordPress for you (creating and configuring the database, plus installing and configuring WordPress).
This basic WordPress install then allows you to start adding content to your site. You can use either the default WordPress theme that we’ll set up for you as part of the Mini-Marvin install (the latest 2010 default theme is pretty nifty!) or you can change this yourself to one of the many free themes available via the WordPress site.
As your business grows, your WordPress site will grow with it. And, when you’re ready, you can upgrade to Marvin (or even Marci, below)!

Add some meat onto Marvin’s bones
Sometimes Marvin’s bones are just a tad too bare for what you might need. We offer a variety of add-ons for those times when you need that little bit extra. These can be purchased individually, but we’ve bundled some of the most commonly needed extras into packages that provide some savings over buying each add-on separately.

If you don’t have a logo yet, we can design a text-based one for your header using a font that matches the personality of your business (and you!).
We can integrate up to 5 pages of content (provided by you) into your website. This includes any necessary formatting.
If you’re not familiar with WordPress, and you live locally, we can teach you how to use WordPress to edit your own content. Usually 1 – 2 hours will cover all you need to know.
We can design and install a faviconLook up to your browser’s address bar. Do you see the little icon next to our web address (the little blue square with a noodly ‘P’). That’s called a favicon. You don’t need one to have a fully functioning website, but having one does add a nice little touch and can help with branding. for you.
We can create and submit a profile of your business to Google’s Local Business CenterWith roughly 40% of search engine queries now focused on local businesses and over 90% of those queries translating into offline sales, it is more important than ever to be found when someone in your area searches online for a business like yours. Adding your business details to Google’s Local Business Center can ensure this – it is linked to Google maps, so that when the search results are displayed, a map of the local area along with business profiles matching the search query keywords is displayed at the top of the search results. It is an easy way to get to the first spot on a search engine’s results page, and since the top 3 spots get almost all the click-throughs, this is most definitely where you want to be! for you.

Custom website design
In addition to taking care of all the technical nuts and bolts of setting up a website for you, we’ll also bring our most fabulous creative selves to the table to make it look gorgeous with a completely custom design, totally unique to you!
How much for all this creative customisation? Well, that’s a difficult one to answer because no two projects are the same… depending on the complexity of what you want, your website could cost £750 or it could cost £3000 (or even more). That’s a really wide range, which is why there are no ‘buy now’ buttons for Marci! This is a seriously personalised process – contact us to find out what we can do for you.
Prices for behind-the-scenes technical WordPress stuff
WordPress upgrades (including back up): £60
It’s important to keep your WordPress installation up-to-date as the latest versions usually contain important security features to keep your site protected. If you’re unsure of how to do an upgrade yourself, we can help. Our upgrade service will include a full back-up of your site and database.
WordPress plugin installation: £15 per plugin
Want to enhance the functionality of your site? WordPress plugins will do just that. If you know which plugins you want to install, but haven’t got the time to do this yourself (or are scared of breaking your site in the process!) we can install these for you. If you need advice regarding which plugins to add to your site, we can provide guidance in this regard at our hourly consultation rate.
Custom WordPress plugin development: £60 per hour
Want a plugin written especially for you? If there isn’t a current plugin available that matches your requirements, we can write one for you.
Search Engine Optimisation
The Phenomenoodle team now includes some very savvy Search Engine Optimisation specialists. Their proven track record of providing SEO and internet marketing services to small businesses can help you achieve better rankings in the search engines.
SEO services are available on either a one-off or ongoing basis, and include features such as a site analysis, keyword research, competitor analysis, SEO copywriting, targeted phrases, on-page optimisation, search engine submission, directory submissions, link building, content distribution, and social bookmarking. The exact mix of services offered will depend on your requirements and the size of your website (number of pages).

Ongoing assistance on a retainer basis: £150 per month or £1500 per year
If you want to get on with doing what you do best – your business – as well as peace of mind from knowing that the technical aspects of your website are taken care of, hire us on an annual or month-by-month basis. This service entitles you to 3 hours per month of work on your site: a guaranteed monthly back-up of your site and database, plus any other work that needs to be done (such as upgrading WordPress, installing plugins or troubleshooting). Any work required over and above the 3 hours will be charged at our hourly consultation rate.
